A nighttime explosion at a Tesla Supercharger station in Lacey, Washington, US, has alarmed the region. The explosion is thought to have been caused by a small bomb placed in the charging station. Lacey Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), who started an investigation into the incident, continue their investigations by taking the area under a security circle.
The FBI is involved in the investigation
The explosion occurred in the power cabinet of a Tesla Supercharger station consisting of 12 units. The entire station was temporarily taken out of service following the incident. Tesla said in a statement on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on the subject, “Do not mess with critical infrastructure”, saying that camera recordings were examined and the station will be commissioned in a short time.
According to the statement made by police officials, the incident is believed to be a suspected sabotage and it is noted that a comprehensive investigation is being carried out with the FBI.
Over the last two months, there have been increasing global protests and calls for boycotts against Tesla. Especially in the US, many people are targeting the company, citing Tesla CEO Elon Musk's political connections. In recent weeks, Tesla showrooms were vandalized, some vehicles were arsoned and charging stations were sabotaged in different cities. Although such incidents are often investigated by local law enforcement agencies, the FBI has begun to consider acts of sabotage targeting the company as “domestic terrorism” following the increase in attacks against Tesla.
The FBI even announced that it had established a special team to investigate attacks against Tesla. Although the perpetrators of the explosion in Lacey have not yet been identified, this incident is likely to be a turning point if it is determined that the explosion was caused by a bomb.
